Home to embassies, luxury office buildings, five-star hotels, sunny cafes, some of Asia’s best restaurants and luxurious condominium developments, Silom-Sathorn-Saladaeng is one of the Bangkok’s busiest areas. Silom-Sathorn-Saladaeng is an attractive residential location for primarily higher-income Thais and expatriates due to its status as the city’s CBD and its proximity to Lumpini Park.

The neighborhood encompassing parts of Silom, Sathorn and Rama 4 Roads is easily defined by the five rapid transit train stops around which has rapidly grown. Served by both the BTS (Skytrain) Green Line stations at Sala Daeng, Chong Nonsi and Surasak, and the MRT (subway) Blue Line stations at Silom (where it interchanges with BTS) and Lumpini. 
 

Recent Developments and Average Prices

For the past few years, Silom-Sathorn-Saladaeng has been the site of many notable projects. New condominium developments are averaging THB 200,000 – 300,000 per square meter ranking Silom-Sathorn-Saladaeng among the most expensive neighborhoods in Bangkok. Some notable recent projects include:
 

• Tait 12, developed by Raimon Land, units priced from THB 9.3 to 40.7 million (THB 247,000 per/sq. m.), completion planned for 2023.
• Anil Sathorn 12, developed by Grand Unity Development, units priced THB 13.1 to 34.8 million (THB 299,000 per/sq. m.), completed planned for 2022.
• The Lofts Silom, developed by Raimon Land, units priced from THB 7.6 to 33 million (THB 221,000 per/sq. m.), completed in 2020.                                                 

The Ritz-Carlton Residences at MahaNakhon, developed by Pace Development, units priced from THB 39.8 to THB 628 million (THB 421,000 per/sq. m.), completed in 2017. 

Upcoming projects include a Dusit Group mixed-use development comprising a hotel and condominium, plus retail and office spaces. Another interesting project is One Bangkok, a mixed-use project on the former plot of Suan Lum Night Bazaar.

High-end offices are located on Sathorn Road, including Empire Tower, Sathorn Square, Bangkok City Tower, Sathorn City Tower and AIA Sathorn Tower. Bangkok Bank has its corporate headquarters on Silom Road.

Several lifestyle malls can be found in the area, including Silom Complex at Silom Road, Baan Silom at Soi 19 and MahaNakhon CUBE near BTS Chong Nonsi. Tesco Lotus is located in Chamchuri Square on Rama 4 road near MRT Sam Yan Station. A Foodland supermarket is located in Patpong and a Villa Supermarket is located in Silom Soi 5. The Lalai Sap Market on Silom Soi 5 is popular for inexpensive food and clothing.

Buzzing with new bars and outstanding hangout spots, Silom-Sathorn-Saladaeng truly comes alive in the later hours of the night.

No description of Silom area nightlife is complete without mentioning the notorious Patpong district, a group of small lanes off Silom Road near BTS Sala Daeng Station. Filled with bars of all kinds, restaurants, souvenir shops and a street bazaar, it's a unique place to have a few drinks, play pool, watch the crowds, or walk on the wild side. Patpong Soi 4 is filled with gay bars and clubs. Soi Thaniya caters to Japanese customers with lounges, bars and massage parlors.

Most of the best hotels in the area feature excellent rooftop bars. You can check out Scarlett Wine Bar and Restaurant at Pullman Bangkok Hotel G, Vertigo Rooftop Moon Bar at Banyan Tree, Park Society at SO Sofitel, or Zoom Skybar at Anantara Sathorn. Some more popular options include Sky Bar at Le Bua State Tower or Cloud 47 at the United Center Building. 

Other excellent night venues include Maggie Choo’s, a unique bar in the basement of the Novotel Bangkok Felix Silom.

Culture, Arts and Leisure Facilities
 

Among the many daytime attractions that the Silom-Sathorn-Saladaeng neighborhood has to offer, Lumpini Park stands out as a green oasis. Its lakes, walking paths and monument to King Rama VI make this park in the center of the opulent Lumpini neighborhood an attraction to be enjoyed over and over.

The Neilson Hays Library at Surawong Road has one of the largest collections of English language books in Bangkok. It also hosts various events for children on Saturdays.

M.R. Kukrit's House at Sathorn Soi 19 is a heritage museum dedicated to former Thailand Prime Minister Kukrit Pramoj, comprising five teak houses, the earliest of which is more than 100 years old, is a fascinating cultural heritage site in Bangkok.

For health and fitness lovers, Virgin Active Fitness Club is located at the Empire Tower at South Sathorn Road. Fitness First Platinum is located in Sathorn Square and Health Land Sathorn, a massage and spa center, is located on North Sathorn Road Soi 12.
 

Religious Venues
 

Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, also known as Maha Uma Devi Temple (or colloquially as Wat Khaek) is a South Indian (Tamil) Hindu temple, located at Silom Road near Pan Road, this colorful Dravidian style Hindu temple houses a range of beautiful statues of Hindu Deities.

The Silom area has many Christian churches including St. Louis Catholic Church on South Sathorn Road, Bangkok International United Pentecostal Church on Sala Daeng Soi 2, Bangkok Christian Church on Pramuan Road as well as Christ Church Bangkok and Aram Carmel on Convent Road.
 

Education and Healthcare
 

Primary and secondary schools in the area include Saint Joseph Convent School, Assumption Convent School, Assumption Suksa School, St. Louis Suksa School, Bangkok Christian College and Assumption College. Colleges and universities include St. Louis Nursing School and Chulalongkorn University.

Local hospitals include the world-class Bangkok Nursing Home (BNH) Hospital, St. Louis Hospital, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Bangkok Christian Hospital and Lerdsin Hospital.
